Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Learn how to present real-world problems to eager students through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the Common Core while creating an educational environment filled with inquiry and problem-based learning. During this session participants will experience the merging of STEM with the Common Core via video clips, digital artifacts, and lesson experiences collected onboard the STEM Exploration Lab, a K-5 mobile classroom. Featured lesson samples will include Changes Around Our World: Physical and Chemical, Growing Strong: Interdependence of Living Things, Environmental Alert: Water and Air Quality, and Exploring STEM: Careers and Skills for Success. Student activities related to these lessons and the format for classroom delivery will be demonstrated and practiced throughout the two hour session. Activities to look forward to will be digital science note booking for 3-5 students through the use of photo collages, "talking" picture notes, and organized doodling for note taking. Meeting the data collection needs of K-2 students as emergent writers will be addressed as well as the vital role of student reflection in the learning process.
